There's several pieces of equipment needed both for functional and protective measures. All of the equipment listed below is required to participate in any of our programming.
Some additional equipment that is good to have is:
Our learn to skate/intro to hockey program has been designed for those with flexible weekday schedules and haven't had a chance to try the sport because of other commitments/activities in the evenings or weekends. This program will run 1 day a week (October - December for fall program and January - March for winter program) and focus on the following aspects.
Depending on overall registration numbers and specific player skill, players may be divided up into 2-3 separate groups of like skill to ensure players can learn at an appropriate pace and skill level.
As this is also a learn to skate program, participants do not need prior experience skating, however, as this is a hockey focused program they will work on skating skills through the context of hockey.
While the programs are not funded directly by school boards, many school boards will fund development programs (as opposed to regular hockey teams) but you should check with your specific school board prior to registering to see the eligibility if this is a concern.
For the 2024/25 season, all the included age groups will be on the ice together, however, where needed and available, players will be split into groups of either the same age group and/or skill level to perform certain drills and activities.
Sessions will take place 1-2 times per week depending on which program and options you have registered for. Times and locations may vary from week to week, however, all sessions will be somewhere between Monday-Friday during the day (sometime between 9:00AM and 4:00 PM. Schedules which include locations and times will be sent out to registered participants closer to the program start date. Our goal is to keep the session times and locations at consistent and convenient as possible.
For our homeschool hockey program we're aiming to have about a 1-7 coach to player ratio.
For our Homeschool intro to hockey/learn to skate program, we're looking to have about a 1-5 coach to player ratio.
Please note that coach to player ratios are dependent upon overall registration numbers and while our overarching goal is to have the most appropriate coach to player ratio to best serve the players, the actual coach to player ratio, the actual coach to player ratio may change.
We understand the importance of being able to schedule activities, learning, family, and life in general!
The locations, times, and needs of every potential player may be different and our goal is to try and accommodate as many as possible.
Sessions will be held at a facility which is as central as possible within Calgary. Some of these locations might include, Max Bell, East Calgary Twin Arenas, Stew Henry, and Henry Viney to name a few. These are all arenas within a relatively short proximity to each other and can accommodate a program such as this.
In regard to times, we're aiming for the following:
Homeschool Hockey Intro to Hockey/Learn to skate - Tuesday's from 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
Our goal is to keep these program times as close to this as possible, however, is subject to change based on specific arena availability and registration numbers in each program.
